We are lucky to have the owners of all of the Golfands from here to Sacramento living in our ward. They graciously sponsor a 4th of July Ward Party every year at the Golfland in San Jose. Alex's first introduction to Golfland was when he was 9 days old (his birthday is June 25th). He went to the Golfland activity. That began his love affair with mini golf.
It is easy to tell when Alex is in charge of Family Night. We either go bowling (yes- 10 pin you Canadians) or mini golfing. It is so funny how predictable he is. He is driven by his passion for fun. I think the first family night we did after Ashton was born was bowling (7 days) and then minigolfing (14 days- wait how did he end up being in charge of family night two weeks in a row..... sneaky- I must have been either preoccupied with something or just simply sleep deprived! :)
Last year they began having a ward Easter Party at the Golfland in Sunnyvale. They hold a potluck brunch, some Easter related games, the Easter Egg Hunt, and then mini golfing for the family. You should have seen Alex's face when they announced in church that they were holding the ward Easter Party at Golfland again. Tempering that excitement at the beginning of Sac meeting was a little challenging. He went got the flier, put it in his little pocket and then made sure to give it to me when he got home.
That began the daily count down to April 11th. Every morning Alex would double check the date and then inform me how many days were left. The Friday before we went down to hours. Saturday morning he opened his eyes at 6:30 a.m. (this is huge because he isn't a morning person and we even have to shake him awake on Christmas Morning) and said to me, "Mom, it's only 2 1/2 hours until we have the Easter Egg Hunt at Golfland". I did my best to sound enthusiastic. I can just imagine how exciting it is to a little boy to have your favorite activity melded with getting a basket full of sugar. (Almost as exciting as me getting an uninterrupted nap.... wow that is exciting :).
The kids had a great time hunting for eggs. Ashton had no problem learning the routine of 'the hunt'. Madison was so sweet and took her around to find the eggs. Ashton loves purses and bags so this was right up her alley.
It is so fun to see kids so excited about an activity. I love the enthusiasm that my kids possess (in almost everything). I had a teacher once that said, "If it deserves to be done, it deserves to be done well!" My darling children tackle everything with such vigor and zest. They are always giving more than a 100% (which is another reason why I am so tired all the time). :) What bunch of sweethearts!
