I did it!
Now before I begin, I must acknowledge that this was Ashton's fault. She opened the school cupboard and pulled out all the colored pencils (aka death) onto the floor. I am currently running an incentive to motivate the kids to help with the nightly 'pick-up. If the floor is clean we can put a pebble in the jar. When the jar is full we will go to Chuck E. Cheese. Knowing this was a challenging task, I offered Alex 2 pebbles to pick up the colored pencils.
Now I have been a mom for 12 years now and you think I would remember how concrete kids are. I gave no specifics as to how they were to be picked up. In fact, I count myself lucky they even made it back into the holder. Did I give him the pebbles? (Look at that face, wouldn't you have?)
I did have to shut him down when he kept dumping out his books, picking them up, and putting a pebble in the jar. Again, I realized more specifics were in order. Now we need to clean up the things after we have USED them. Sigh. Everyone wonders why I am so tired all the time!
